On Wednesday, World Health Organization Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that more than half of Sudan's hospitals are out of service due to the war in the country. Ghebreyesus stated in a press conference that 33% of Sudan's population "faces severe hunger due to the conflict, and the threat of famine looms over Darfur and Khartoum." He noted that over 15,000 casualties and 33,000 injuries have been reported, in addition to 15 million people needing urgent humanitarian health assistance since the conflict began in April 2023. Ghebreyesus continued: "Nearly 9 million people have been displaced, half of whom are children, with very limited access to health services, and more than 70% of hospitals in conflict-affected states and nearly half of health facilities in the rest of the country are out of service." He called on the parties involved in the conflict in Sudan to facilitate unhindered access to humanitarian aid for those in need.
