Women's empowerment, the reduction of gender discrimination, and the exercise of Lebanese women's rights were topics discussed at a meeting of influential and active female personalities. The special event, held at the Horse Racecourse, marked the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the "Fe-Male" organization, with the participation of ambassadors, artists, politicians, and intellectuals. The festival included awareness campaigns led by specialists in mental health, sports, and art, emphasizing the necessity for all community sectors to unite against the discrimination faced by women.
Haya Murshid, the program director of the Fe-Male organization, reaffirmed her commitment to support feminist movements in Lebanon and combat gender-based violence, which manifests through beliefs, concepts, and customs that favor men at the expense of women. MP Paula Yacoubian confirmed to "Wardna" that some women continue to face various forms of torture, humiliation, and oppression, including the denial of their right to grant citizenship to their children.
MP Halima Kaakour rejected any societal pressures placed on women that seek to influence their decisions or compel them against their free will. Actress Carmen Lebbos declined to speak of women as weak beings, emphasizing that changes have occurred, allowing women to express their will through social media that amplifies their free voice. Content creator Yara Bou Moncef, in a conversation with "Wardna," asserted that through her comedic content, she demonstrates that comedy is not solely a male domain, stressing her choice of art over her university field of study. Singer Tiara Wahab noted that such festivals help amplify voices and raise awareness aimed at reducing gender discrimination.
The festival featured panel discussions with a select group of inspiring women and experts, addressing issues related to women and society, which can increase awareness regarding these matters essential for building a healthy Lebanese nation and society. It enabled attendees to engage and participate directly in the discussions. There was also a special area for children and individuals from various age groups and backgrounds, including artistic performances, musical nights, comedy theater shows, sports sessions, and physical activities, along with opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange.
