Shanghai Port won the Chinese Super League title after drawing (1-1) with Shandong Taishan, their closest rivals, on Sunday. The match was tense and saw five red cards issued. With this result, Port secured one point which was enough to guarantee the title, while Shandong, five points behind the leaders before the match, needed a win to postpone the title decision until the final round of the season.
In the 16th minute, Liu Wengong gave Shanghai the lead by scoring the first goal of the match, which soon turned into a scene of roughness, brawls, and chaos, prompting the referee to issue multiple red cards. Liu, the scorer of the opening goal, was the first to be sent off after a clash with an opposing player in the 41st minute. Following that, numerous ejections occurred, including Shandong's coach Javier Pereira, escalating the tension before Shandong managed to equalize with a goal from Xi Weining, who scored from close range with a rebound just one minute before the end. This is the first time Shanghai Port has won the Chinese league title since 2018.
