Emergency Landing of Plane Heading to Saudi Arabia

A passenger plane carrying 468 people made an emergency landing in Makassar, South Indonesia, on Wednesday due to a fire in the engine, shortly after taking off on a flight between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Garuda Indonesia announced that flight GA-1105, heading to Medina on a Boeing 747-400, returned to the airport from which it had departed in Makassar at 5:15 PM local time (09:15 UTC), with no injuries reported among the passengers. The company's director-general, Irfan Setiaputra, stated in a statement: "The captain made the decision shortly after takeoff, considering the problems identified after noticing a spark in one of the engines." Irfan confirmed that "the aircraft was carrying 450 passengers and 18 crew members, including pilgrims." He noted that all passengers were sent to accommodations while they awaited another flight to Saudi Arabia later.
