The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, welcomed the UN Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2720, expressing hope that this decision will alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza and facilitate increased aid. Al-Budaiwi stated that the resolution, which calls for urgent steps to allow safe and expanded delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, create conditions for a sustainable ceasefire, appoint a coordinator for humanitarian affairs and reconstruction in Gaza, and other provisions, is an important decision that will contribute to providing a safe environment for the residents of the sector and necessary conditions for an immediate and sustainable cessation of hostilities. He urged Israel to swiftly implement this resolution and adhere to all UN decisions and the requirements of international humanitarian law by ceasing attacks on civilians in Gaza, including hospitals, schools, shelters, and camps. Al-Budaiwi called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities by enforcing an immediate ceasefire and protecting the people of Gaza from Israeli aggressions that have resulted in the deaths of over twenty thousand Palestinians and injuries to tens of thousands of civilians, most of whom are women and children.
