Amos Hochstein, senior advisor to the U.S. president, referred to the issue of maritime border demarcation between Lebanon and Israel. In an interview with "Sky News" Arabia, he stated that President Biden was committed to securing a maritime border agreement between Lebanon and Israel. He explained that this is the first-ever agreement regarding the borders between Israel and Lebanon.
He added, "As a result, we have seen Total and ENI, the French and Italian companies, start exploring for gas in these areas in Lebanon for the first time. This was not possible without the maritime agreement, as it was never safe to do so. I just returned to Lebanon a few weeks ago. We want to see Lebanon reach better economic conditions and prosperity through what has been achieved."
He said, "We are also working with the Palestinians to see how we can support them politically and economically. So this is a holistic matter; we want to see the Middle East as a whole being more integrated, interconnected, and stable. If we achieve physical connectivity and economic integration, it will lead to more prosperity and peace as well. I believe this is the right approach, and President Biden is very committed to moving forward on this."
