Guterres: Everyone Must Recognize the Palestinian People's Right to Build Their State

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized yesterday, Saturday, during the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Uganda, that "everyone must recognize the right of the Palestinian people to build their state," stating that any "denial" of this right is "unacceptable." Guterres mentioned that "refusal to accept a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians, as well as denying the Palestinian people's right to establish a state, is unacceptable," adding that "this would indefinitely prolong a conflict that has become a significant threat to global peace and security, exacerbating polarization and encouraging extremists worldwide." The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed the necessity for everyone to acknowledge the Palestinian people's right to build their state. Guterres reiterated his call on Monday for an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in Gaza. Recently, the United States, Israel's main ally and its most prominent supporter in the war against Hamas, reaffirmed its support for the establishment of a Palestinian state, which has raised disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government. In its final statement, the Non-Aligned Movement strongly condemned "the illegal Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip," calling for a "permanent humanitarian ceasefire." It also urged nations to recognize the independence and sovereignty of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to achieve a two-state solution. The Non-Aligned Movement was established in 1961 to amplify the voices of countries seeking to distance themselves at that time from the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union.
