A statement was issued today, Monday, by the President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea: "The Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, has called for a meeting of the Council's Bureau on Wednesday, most likely to prepare for a parliamentary session to extend the term of municipal and elective councils in Lebanon for the third time, under the pretext of the military operations taking place in the south. It should be noted that the opposition axis was also instrumental in the previous extensions, despite the absence of any military operations in the south at that time. This direction indicates that the opposition axis and its allies, particularly the 'Free Patriotic Movement,' do not want municipal elections in Lebanon for the foreseeable future. Municipalities are the almost sole authorities still existing to meet the needs of citizens, who turn to them in good times and bad. Therefore, I call on all blocs and MPs, especially the 'Free Patriotic Movement,' not to contribute to this new extension, knowing that a large part of the municipalities has become dissolved, another part is paralyzed, and the remaining ones have been neglected. Disrupting the municipal and elective elections once again is an additional stab in the Lebanese body, which is already suffering a lot, and a denounced crime against the citizen, as well as against the state and its institutions."
