Xavi Hernandez, the coach of Barcelona, spoke about the motivations that led him to reverse his decision to leave the team at the end of the current season. Xavi stated at a press conference on Thursday, "I am a huge supporter of Barcelona, and I always think about the best interest of the club. I met with the club president yesterday and left the decision in his hands."
He added, "I feel confident with the president, the sporting director Deco, and his assistant Boyan, as well as the entire team. The support from the players has been incredibly important; they pushed me to continue, and I became convinced that the project is not over yet."
Xavi continued, "The fans also motivated me to stay, and most importantly, I see myself capable of doing this. We reached an understanding in 3 minutes." He confirmed, "The desire and confidence were mutual; I feel the love from the fans when I am in the street, which also pushed me to reconsider, and the players successfully convinced me as well."
He added, "We have generated excitement and a strong desire recently, and we have come close to achieving our goals, but unfortunately, we stumbled." Xavi asserted that he is "convinced that Barcelona's project is capable of winning titles and that things have changed in the last three months; we are not finished yet."
He continued, "Reversing my decision is a wise step, and there is no problem with that. It’s not about pride or selfishness, and it has nothing to do with money. Everything stated about me wanting to leave to get my salary value in the last year of my contract is fake news aimed at tarnishing my image."
He concluded his remarks, "The club president knows very well that if I were to leave, I would not ask Barcelona for a single euro for the last year of my contract."
