Berri: My Initiative is Ongoing, and All of Lebanon Will Benefit if We Successfully Complete the Presidential Election

Sources from Ain al-Tineh revealed to "An-Nahar" that "Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri came out 'satisfied' from his meeting with the French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, who reiterated that he supports what was included in the Speaker's invitation to a dialogue table, which deals solely with the topic of electing a president." They pointed out that "Le Drian will work to support Berri's initiative and engage with the heads of the blocs he will meet to encourage their participation." The sources noted that "Berri asked him if his stance represented the quintet group, to which he positively responded, confirming that it has the backing of the member states."

Berri's circles explained to "An-Nahar" that "he did not go into details about Le Drian's attempts and how he aims to convince those who refused dialogue to participate, and that at the end of his tour, he will convey the outcomes to Berri, allowing Parliament to continue the dialogue for seven days." Following that, Berri will set a date for the electoral session, which would be the 13th, if things proceed as agreed with the French envoy. In response to a question, Berri confirmed to "An-Nahar" that his initiative "is not over and that dialogue is indispensable for the benefit of all. All of Lebanon will be the winner if we succeed in completing the presidential election process."
