Russian doctor Natalia Tananakina identified certain types of foods that play a role in improving mood and enhancing brain and nervous system function. During a television interview, she stated, "There are many food products that have a positive effect on improving a person's mood, including yogurt and fermented dairy products without added artificial substances, as well as certain pickles like pickled cabbage. These foods help improve intestinal function and mood as they contain probiotics or what are called live cultures that boost immunity and improve brain function."
She added, "The microorganisms found in some types of food help maintain beneficial gut bacteria in the body, which directly affects the production of serotonin, the hormone responsible for behavior, stress resistance, appetite, and even sexual desire, and its secretion contributes to improving mood." The doctor also noted that "eating bananas may help improve mood as they contain sugar, fiber, and vitamin B6, all of which are essential for the health of the nervous system."
Earlier, Russian nutritionist Elena Bashkirova also mentioned that foods rich in omega-3, folic acid, and bioflavonoids help improve mood, including fish, leafy greens, berries, and some types of spices. On another note, nutrition expert Tatyana Strelnikova recommended consuming nuts, legumes, whole grains, fish, seafood, vegetables, and fruits, noting that these foods contain the amino acid tryptophan, which affects serotonin levels, thereby contributing to mood enhancement.
