Footage circulated on social media showed an emergency landing of a Boeing 767 aircraft, which had a sudden malfunction in its landing system, resulting in a crash landing on the runway. The flight took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport early Wednesday, heading to Istanbul. Sparks flew from the aircraft's body during the landing, and smoke rose as it made contact with the runway. Firefighters and rescue teams were on standby at the scene, and the Turkish Ministry of Transport dispatched emergency teams as soon as they learned of the aircraft's landing system failure.
FedEx Express flight #FX6238, a Boeing 767-3S2F, performed a nose gear-up landing on runway 16R at Istanbul-Atatürk Airport (ISL).
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdul Qadir Uraloglu stated that "no one was injured in today’s incident, and the crew safely evacuated the aircraft." Boeing is facing intense scrutiny amid a series of consecutive incidents and controversy over aircraft quality control issues. In April, Boeing announced a loss of $343 million in the first quarter, which was below market expectations, alongside a decline in deliveries due to production issues and operational incidents.
