The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the United States as "the biggest threat to space security." This came in a statement from the ministry in response to remarks made by a Pentagon representative regarding "anti-satellite weapons" from Beijing and Moscow. The ministry's statement said, "The United States is the main driving force behind the militarization of space and turning it into a theater for military operations, as well as being the biggest threat to space security."
Previously, a senior Pentagon official accused Russia and China of developing and deploying ground and orbital anti-space weapons, while Beijing and Moscow have repeatedly denied such accusations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that Washington is attempting to tarnish Beijing's reputation in order to justify the expansion of its military power in space. The ministry stated, "We once again urge the U.S. side to stop spreading false statements, stop building weapons and preparing for war in outer space, and truly bear the necessary responsibilities."
Additionally, the ministry expressed support for the peaceful use of outer space and for the international community to draft a legal document regarding arms reduction in space. Chinese diplomats have previously pointed out that "the United States is developing military capabilities in outer space and provoking confrontation between major powers."
