Heavy rain and floods hit the eastern regions of Iraq today, Friday, affecting markets and hospitals in Wasit province, as the country experienced a low-pressure system accompanied by heavy rainfall. A circulated video showed water levels rising between half a meter to one meter due to the heavy rain in the market of Sheikh Saad district in Wasit province. The floods also caused the death of many sheep and the destruction of some mud houses in several villages of Qara Tappa district in Diyala province, east of the capital Baghdad. The Iraqi Meteorological Authority forecasted the weather conditions for the coming days, indicating thunderstorms and stabilization in temperatures. The intensity of rainfall in Qara Tappa district caused the collapse of many homes.
