Egypt: Pepsi Company Makes New Decision After Boycott Campaigns

Pepsi-Cola Egypt, a subsidiary of the global PepsiCo, has decided to raise the prices of Pepsi cans starting from next Thursday during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The price for a 320/330 ml Pepsi can will be 11.75 EGP, while a 240/250 ml Pepsi can will cost 10.75 EGP, leading to an overall price of 12 EGP for Pepsi cans in retail stores. This decision comes despite companies moving towards reducing the prices of goods in compliance with directives from the Egyptian government to ease the burden on citizens. The commercial chambers announced a mechanism for reducing prices at the end of March, warning violators of imprisonment if price manipulation is proven, resulting in profits higher than the market level. Earlier, Pepsi-Cola Egypt decided to increase the price of 300 and 350 ml non-returnable glass bottles in local markets, with the consumer price reaching 11.75 EGP starting February 2024, despite ongoing boycott campaigns launched by social media followers demanding a boycott of all products linked to countries supporting the Israeli occupation, amidst the loss of thousands of lives due to Israeli bombings since October.
