Borrell: Recognizing the State of Palestine is Not a Gift to Hamas

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell indicated today, Friday, that "recognizing a Palestinian state is not a gift to Hamas." He added: "Recognizing the Palestinian state is not a gift to Hamas; quite the opposite. The Palestinian Authority is not Hamas, and in fact, they are in deep conflict." He continued that "the EU has already spoken, funded, and met with the Palestinian Authority." He stated: "Every time someone makes the decision to support a Palestinian state, Israel's reaction is to turn it into anti-Semitism." Spain, Norway, and Ireland announced that they will recognize a Palestinian state on May 28, and encouraged other European countries to follow suit.
