The Military Intelligence Directorate of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced today, Thursday, the discovery of tunnels and underground hideouts belonging to ISIS in Nineveh Province. The directorate stated in a statement that "through a proactive operation and with exceptional intelligence efforts based on precise information from the 15th Division's intelligence branch, and in cooperation with the intelligence and forces of the 73rd Brigade, after searching and inspecting the village of Abu Maria, the military intelligence teams were able to find tunnels and underground hideouts measuring over 50 meters in length, 100 cm in width, and 2 meters in height located in Tal Afar district." The statement added that "these tunnels and hideouts were used by ISIS gangs as a strategic center for leading their terrorist operations at the time," noting "the presence of rooms used as prisons and hideouts for weapons, ammunition, and various materials," and highlighting that "engineering teams have removed and locally destroyed the materials, completely burying the tunnels."
