Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced today, Monday, the acceptance of the resignation of Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh's government and tasked it with managing its affairs until a new government is formed. Abbas met with Shtayyeh today, who presented the government's resignation to the president.
Abbas also issued a decree accepting Shtayyeh's resignation and assigning his resigned ministers to temporarily manage government affairs until a new cabinet is established. Earlier today, Shtayyeh stated in a televised address that he had placed the government's resignation at the disposal of President Mahmoud Abbas. He also mentioned that the upcoming phase requires new arrangements to ensure unity.
Sources had informed Al Arabiya/Al Hadath on Sunday that the current government led by Mohammad Shtayyeh would announce its resignation within a week. It was also added that the new government that will succeed it will consist only of "technocrats," referring to specialized ministers. The proposed name to lead the new government is expected to be Mohammad Mustafa, head of the Palestinian Investment Fund.
