This Thursday morning, Egyptian dermatologist Dr. Hani Al-Nazar passed away at the age of 73 after a six-month battle with cancer. Thousands mourned him on social media platforms. Dr. Hani Al-Nazar, a former president of the National Research Center in Egypt, was reported by his family to have been diagnosed with cancer, which led doctors to restrict visits for an extended period. However, in recent days, his health deteriorated, leading to his passing after a remarkable scientific career.
Dr. Hani Al-Nazar was born on December 26, 1950. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences from Cairo University in 1972, then enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and graduated in 1981. He focused on obtaining scientific qualifications that would benefit both fields of his university studies; he earned a Master's degree in Medicinal Plants from Cairo University in 1979 and a Ph.D. in the same field in 1985.
Known as the "Doctor of the Simple," he utilized his Facebook account for medical awareness, responding to questions and providing free online consultations for patients. He was dedicated to answering his followers' inquiries and sharing health information and warnings about diseases and epidemics, amassing approximately 2.4 million followers who benefited from his knowledge.
Al-Nazar discovered his cancer diagnosis in October 2023. Despite his declining health, he attempted to keep in touch with his followers on Facebook occasionally and recently asked his son, Dr. Mohamed Al-Nazar, to respond to their medical inquiries.
