Kataeb: The Only Way Out of the Presidential Vacancy is Hezbollah's Withdrawal of Its Candidate

The Kataeb political bureau warned, in a statement following a meeting chaired by MP Samy Gemayel, against "the remnants of authority continuing to submit to Hezbollah and adopting its positions, attributing them to the Lebanese in any negotiations led with any foreign envoy. This, in addition to being an usurpation of power in the absence of a president, deliberately contributes to dragging the country into a fatal confrontation that it cannot withstand or even manage under its current conditions." They held "these individuals responsible for the disintegration of the state and the breakdown of order as a result of their abandonment of the state's right to make decisions regarding war and peace, handing it over to Hezbollah and then to Iran, turning the Lebanese into negotiation cards to serve a project alien to them."

The bureau noted that "the Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, dealt a knockout blow to the Moderate Bloc initiative. While he concealed his fatherly role in the first round to prevent its failure, as claimed, he fundamentally acknowledges that it did not present anything new worthy of consideration before returning to adopt it under its rejected conditions to sabotage it." They reaffirmed that "the only way out of the presidential vacancy is for the opposition to meet halfway and for Hezbollah to withdraw its candidate, which is currently obstructing the elections and paralyzing the country, and to move forward without preconditions to a third name that enjoys the trust of all parties, capable of engaging with all stakeholders and negotiating on behalf of Lebanon in a way that serves its sovereignty, independence, civilizational face, and its distinctive role in this region of the world." They urged "all parties involved in the presidential movement to recognize the reality that the maneuvers being advanced by Hezbollah and its team aim to tie the fate of the presidency to regional developments in order to gain internal advantages that contribute to tightening their grip on the country, and this will not be allowed by the free Lebanese."
