Norway announced today, Thursday, that it will close its borders to Russian tourists, thereby eliminating the last direct opportunity for them to enter the Schengen Area in Europe. The government stated that starting May 29, most Russian tourists will not be able to enter Norway, which shares a 198-kilometer (123-mile) border with Russia in the far north. Justice and Public Security Minister Emily Inger Mehl confirmed in a statement that "the decision to tighten entry rules aligns with Norway's approach of standing with allies and partners in response to Russia’s illegal aggressive war on Ukraine."
