UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tinetti stated today, Tuesday, that "despite some difficult days and concerning events, the situation in UNIFIL's area of operations is currently stable, although it is volatile." In an interview with the National News Agency, Tinetti said, "Fortunately, the exchange of fire between Lebanese territories and Israel has not escalated into conflict, and we are doing our utmost to ensure that no escalation occurs." He continued, "UNIFIL peacekeepers are at their positions and carrying out their missions. We have also increased patrols and activities to help detect rocket launches through our radar capabilities. Our activities are coordinated with the Lebanese Armed Forces, and many are implemented in cooperation with them. We have actively worked with authorities on both sides of the Blue Line to calm the situation and avoid misunderstandings. Peacekeepers continue their essential work, although this is sometimes done from shelters to ensure their safety." Tinetti concluded: "Our main objective is to help avoid conflict between Lebanon and Israel, and any event that brings the conflict closer is a concern. Our focus is on maintaining security and stability in the region, and we have fully utilized the liaison and coordination mechanisms we have in place, at all levels, to help avoid misunderstandings between Lebanon and Israel that could lead to the escalation of conflict. This is our primary focus at this time, and we are working around the clock to achieve it."
