The Iraqi Federal Court announced today, Tuesday, the suspension of candidate registration for the Kurdistan Parliament elections until the "quota" issue is resolved, based on a request by the Prime Minister of the region, Masrour Barzani.
In detail, the court's decision stated: "The Federal Supreme Court reviewed today, on 7/5/2024, the request submitted by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region - Iraq, which included a request for a provisional order in case number (126/Federal/2024) until the case is adjudicated. The court decided to suspend the implementation of item (Second) of Article (2) of the Regulations for the Registration and Approval of Candidate Lists for the Kurdistan Region Parliament Elections No. (7) of 2024, which states: ((Second: The Kurdistan Parliament consists of (100) seats distributed among the following electoral districts: Erbil Governorate/ (34) seats, Sulaymaniyah Governorate/ (38) seats, Dohuk Governorate/ (25) seats, Halabja/ (3) seats.)) This suspension is until the case is resolved to avoid consequences that would be difficult to rectify in the future."
