Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regrets Lack of Consensus in the Security Council on Accepting Palestine's Membership in the UN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expresses its regret over the lack of consensus in the United Nations Security Council to seize this historic opportunity to accept the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, after more than 75 years have passed since the issuance of the UN General Assembly Resolution 181 calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the failure to implement Security Council Resolution 242. The ministry believes the time has come for the international community to translate its words into actions by accepting the two-state solution and recognizing Palestine as an independent state with full membership. Implementing the relevant UN resolutions regarding the Palestinian issue opens the door to lasting peace and security in the Middle East, allowing for dignity and reassurance, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative agreed upon by Arab states at the Beirut Summit in 2002.
