The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stated: "The projectiles were launched from the town of Wonsan on the eastern coast, while Japan's broadcasting agency reported that a short-range missile was apparently launched and had already fallen." The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff noted that "North Korea launched an unspecified ballistic missile in the direction of the East Sea," also known as the Sea of Japan.
