S&P 500 and Nasdaq Rise with Increase in Unemployment Claims

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq opened slightly higher today, Thursday, as Treasury yields fell after data showed a larger-than-expected increase in weekly unemployment claims, which eased some concerns about further interest rate hikes. The S&P 500 opened up 1.17 points, or 0.03%, at 4268.69 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 8.37 points, or 0.06%, to 13113.27 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, declined by 8.04 points, or 0.02%, to 33656.98 points at the open.
