In Akkar, northern Lebanon, intrusive hunters obstructed the path of a flock of migratory birds and showered them with a barrage of bullets, using both military and hunting weapons, resulting in an unspecified number of deaths among the birds. This occurred despite ongoing awareness campaigns about the importance of these birds to the ecosystem in Lebanon and all the countries they pass through, along with warnings from international organizations.
In response, the Minister of Environment in the caretaker government, Nasser Yassin, issued a statement through his media office saying: "Following the circulation of video footage and images on social media regarding gunfire from military weapons in northern Lebanon directed at migratory birds, Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin communicated with the environmental prosecutor in the north, Judge Ghassan Basil, who opened an investigation into the incident to pursue those violating hunting laws and impose penalties against them. The Minister of Environment also requested that the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, instruct security forces to seriously pursue those who fired the shots."
