Basra Massacre: Father Kills 12 Family Members and Commits Suicide

On Wednesday evening, a father in the Shatt al-Arab district, eastern Basra, killed his entire family consisting of 12 individuals before committing suicide. According to initial information, the father opened fire on his family, which included children and women, inside their home in the Al-Muwathafeen neighborhood of Shatt al-Arab.

It was reported that the father worked in real estate and had financial debts exceeding one billion dinars. Due to psychological pressures, he shot his family and then took his own life.

Iraqi Interior Ministry Statement

The Iraqi interior ministry revealed details of the crime. The spokesperson for the ministry and the security media cell, Major General Muqdad Meri, announced: "In a tragic criminal incident, a father killed his entire family of 12 individuals using a firearm and then committed suicide in the Al-Muwathafeen area of Shatt al-Arab district in Basra province."

He added, "Initial information indicates that this incident resulted from financial issues." He concluded by stating, "The Basra police leadership arrived at the scene and launched a comprehensive investigation."
