In an ongoing effort by the Internal Security Forces to curb motorcycle thefts in various Lebanese regions, the Information Division has intensified its intelligence and field efforts in areas where such thefts are prevalent. Two unidentified individuals were spotted executing motorcycle thefts in Mount Lebanon regions, with a video circulating on social media documenting their theft of a motorcycle in the Airport Road area. Consequently, orders were issued to identify and arrest the perpetrators. Following extensive investigations and inquiries, the division managed to identify both individuals, one of whom is referred to as M. D. (born in 2008, Lebanese).
On March 19, 2024, after precise observation and monitoring, one of the division's patrols located his residence in the Hay al-Salam area, conducted a raid on his home, and arrested him inside. During the search of him and his residence, equipment used in theft operations, two stolen motorcycles, motorcycle spare parts, and a mobile phone were seized.
During the investigation, he confessed to the charges against him regarding his involvement with another person in executing dozens of motorcycle thefts from areas in the southern suburb, Shweifat, Bashamoun, and the Airport Road. He added that they sold the stolen motorcycles in the Burj al-Barajneh and Shatila camps for an amount of $200, and he also admitted to drug use. Legal action was taken against him, and he was placed with the seized items under the authority of the appropriate judicial reference. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the second accomplice.
