Russian President Vladimir Putin made a rare apology when a retired woman complained to him about the rising prices of eggs. During the end-of-year Q&A session he holds with the media and citizens calling from across Russia, the retiree Irina Akopova appeared sitting at her kitchen table, addressing the president via video link. She lamented that the prices of eggs and chicken had increased significantly. She said, "Vladimir Vladimirovich, have mercy on retirees! We do not receive millions in our pensions. Please resolve this issue, we have no one else to turn to." She added, "I am very grateful to you, I rely on your help." Putin responded, "I apologize for this, but this is a failure on the part of the government. I promise that the situation will be corrected in the near future."
