Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the Likud party, informed members of his parliamentary bloc in the Knesset that he is working to encourage residents of the Gaza Strip toward "voluntary migration," according to the newspaper "Israel Hayom," on Monday evening.
"Israel Hayom" explained that Netanyahu's remarks came in response to Likud Knesset member Danny Danon, who stated that the world is currently exploring the possibility of voluntary migration, and that the Canadian immigration minister has publicly mentioned these matters, as well as Nikki Haley, calling for the establishment of a team in Israel to assist those wishing to migrate to a third country. Danon considered this matter to be "urgent from a strategic standpoint."
The report added that Netanyahu praised Danon's remarks and said, "We are working to encourage Gaza residents to voluntarily migrate to other countries. The problem lies in finding countries willing to accept them, but we are working on solving this issue."
Last Thursday, Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced that Canada will launch a migration program allowing residents of Gaza with Canadian relatives to apply for a temporary visa for three years, specifying that relatives eligible under the program include spouses, children, grandchildren, and parents as well.
For her part, Nikki Haley, who is competing for the Republican presidential nomination, stated in recent press remarks, "Residents of Gaza should head to countries loyal to Hamas, such as Turkey, Iran, and Qatar."
