Surprising Statement from UNIFIL: Comments on the Cause of the Explosion

UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti announced that the situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border has been concerning for six months, noting that there has recently been an escalation in fire along the border. He expressed fears that clashes between Lebanon and Israel could lead to war. Tenenti stated during a talk on Al-Hadath channel: “We need to avoid all elements that lead to the escalation of conflict between Israel and Lebanon, and both sides must adhere to Resolution 1701,” adding, “We must understand that the concern about the widening scope of the conflict remains.” He highlighted that UNIFIL is in contact and communication with the Israeli army and Lebanese authorities, mentioning that UNIFIL has sent messages to the Lebanese army, which were then relayed to Hezbollah, emphasizing that there is no direct relationship between UNIFIL and the party. Regarding the recent explosion at a UNIFIL site in the south, Tenenti said, “We are still investigating the causes of the explosion at our location and believe it was a mine.”
