"The war in Israel and Gaza" topped the list of what users searched for globally on the Google search engine in the news category, according to the American company on Monday evening. Among what users searched for in English on Google regarding the Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 7, included: "Israel," "Gaza," "Gaza Strip," "Palestine," "war," "Palestinians," "Hamas," "map," "Israeli-Palestinian conflict," "United States," "Benjamin Netanyahu" (Israeli Prime Minister), "conflict," "West Bank," "Israelis," "death," "Recep Tayyip Erdoğan" (Turkish President), "Prime Minister," "Joe Biden" (American President), "hospital," "journalist," "president," "Jews," and "Hamas."
Notably, most of the search terms on Google this year began with "what" and "why," such as: "What is happening in Israel?" and "Why did Hamas attack?" referring to the Al-Aqsa Flood operation carried out by the resistance fighters of "Al-Qassam," the armed wing of Hamas. Although social media platforms like "Facebook," "Instagram," and "TikTok" have not yet published their annual summary of the top content shared in 2023, several news reports have indicated an increase in content regarding Israeli crimes against Palestinians in general, and Gazans in particular, especially from younger users who have shown unprecedented sympathy for the Palestinian cause.
