The Saudi Fund for Development participated in the inauguration of the Arkeiz agricultural project in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, which the fund contributes to financing with an amount of (34) million dollars. The event was attended by the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the General Director of Arab Operations, Engineer Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Obaid, the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Mauritania, Mohammed bin A'id Al-Balawi, and the Minister of Agriculture in Mauritania, Amam Ould Bibateh.
The project aims to enhance water and food security, enabling beneficiaries to achieve self-sufficiency and contributing to the integration of the development of vital and other developmental sectors. The Saudi Fund for Development recognizes the importance of this sector and has contributed to the reclamation of nearly (6700) hectares of agricultural land, which helps to improve the efficiency of agricultural production capacity, create job opportunities, enhance water facilities, and improve irrigation and drainage, as well as rehabilitate roads and provide agricultural equipment and potable water to farmers, to enhance agricultural services for the brotherly Mauritanian people.
It is noteworthy that the funding for this project is part of the fund's ongoing efforts to enhance various vital sectors and promote economic growth through funding development projects and programs. Since 1979, the fund has provided the Islamic Republic of Mauritania with (20) development projects and programs through developmental loans amounting to over (665) million dollars, in addition to managing the generous grants provided by the Government of the Kingdom through the fund to finance (28) development projects totaling more than (151) million dollars, contributing to the growth and prosperity of many vital sectors.
