Minister of Education Announces Closure of Schools in the Southern Border Area

The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Abbas Halabi, announced the closure of official and private schools, high schools, and vocational institutes located in the southern border area. He left the decision regarding the opening or closing of schools in the rest of the southern and Nabatieh governorates to the directors of these institutions, based on the developments in security and military situations in the aforementioned areas, to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and parents. This should be coordinated with the educational regions and the general directorates of education and vocational training.

According to the statement, the Minister's decision came as a result of the military developments in the border areas and sometimes in areas farther from the border, aiming to avoid putting the safety of students, teachers, and parents at risk. Halabi emphasized his previous directives concerning the importance of ensuring education for students remaining in their villages in the border areas by registering on the dedicated platform for them and for the steadfast teachers as well, to provide them with tablets for online learning and offering laptops to teachers for the same purpose, especially as registration allows teachers to receive their productivity allowance.

Halabi also confirmed his directives to students and teachers who have moved to other areas to benefit from the response schools and receive transportation allowances designated for students, as well as food support, educational follow-up, and psychosocial support that accompanies the provision of education. He pointed out that the administration will visit the Nabatieh and southern areas at the beginning of the week in preparation for a visit by Minister Halabi.
