Israeli police have reinforced security measures around the Old City of Jerusalem since early morning on Holy Saturday, ahead of the emergence of the Holy Fire at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Crowds have gathered at the entrance to the Old City in hopes of witnessing the Holy Fire, but the police have not yet allowed people to enter the Old City. The number of visitors to the Old City this year is significantly lower than last year, attributed to the situation amid the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and difficulties in flights, as many airlines continue to suspend flights to Israel. The appearance of the Holy Fire symbolizes the miraculous light of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and occurs only on Holy Saturday at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the eve of Orthodox Easter. The sacred flame is brought to many countries via special flights, amidst grand celebrations attended by senior leaders and presidents.
