A delegation from the Democratic Civil Forces Coordination, "Taqaddum," led by former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, arrives in Cairo today, Friday, to consult with Egyptian leadership on efforts to stop the war and resolve the crisis in Sudan. The delegation includes leaders from the Forces of Freedom and Change such as Fadlalla Burama Naser, Omar Al-Daqir, Babikir Faisal, Taha Osman, and Mohamed Hassan Al-Taiashi.
The delegation will hold meetings with the Egyptian presidency, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Egyptian intellectuals and opinion-makers, as well as a number of Sudanese activists present in Egypt. The coordination said in a statement via Facebook that the visit comes within the context of historical relations between the two peoples and amid efforts undertaken by "Taqaddum" with friendly countries "to extinguish the fire of war raging in Sudan, address the catastrophic humanitarian situations that our people are suffering under, and work towards effective responses that alleviate the scale of this tragedy."
The statement added that the delegation will discuss ways to reach a peaceful political solution that establishes sustainable peace in Sudan, noting that this requires the willingness of the main parties and coordination of regional and international efforts to help facilitate this goal as quickly as possible.
The visit will also include meetings with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Egyptian intellectuals, opinion-makers, and a wide range of Sudanese actors currently present in Egypt. The statement praised Egypt for hosting hundreds of thousands of Sudanese who have fled from the horrors of war, stating, "We hope that this visit will be a step towards intensifying and coordinating efforts to put an end to the devastating war that must stop immediately."
