Workers in the holy city of Najaf organized a large demonstration today, Wednesday, on the morning of their International Workers' Day, expressing their sorrow over the loss of their rights. Reports indicate that hundreds of workers protested in the city center wearing black clothing in mourning for their rights, especially regarding land that was taken from them and allocated to a security entity. Images showed hundreds of workers dressed in black and raising black flags during their "sad demonstration," which served as a clear indication of the extent of the loss of rights for workers and employees in the private sector throughout Iraq, which has more than 6 million workers, with only 10% registered in social security. At the same time, employees in the public sector also took advantage of the Labor Day holiday to protest, demanding adjustments to the salary scale.
