The "Golden Beiruts Awards" Association honored Lebanon's national football team captain Hassan Maatouk for surpassing 100 international matches and reaching 100 goals in his Lebanese league career. The ceremony took place during the association's closing event for 2023, held at the Venisa Hotel in Beirut, which recognized figures from various sectors who achieved personal successes and contributed to Lebanon throughout the nearing end of the year.
The association's president, Mohamed Halwani, presented Maatouk with an appreciation plaque featuring the number 100, symbolizing his dual accomplishments. This recognition came after Maatouk scored against Racing two weeks ago, marking his 100th goal. Additionally, he has represented Lebanon in 112 international matches, scoring 23 goals, making him the all-time leading scorer for the Lebanese team.
Maatouk, who is now 20 goals shy of the league's top scorer record held by former Ansar star Fadi Allouch (120 goals), remarked: "A long time has passed since that beginning I dreamed of with the national team. The most beautiful thing in my career has been representing my country and giving everything for it. As for the numbers, they remain a beautiful memory for the player, just like the joy of the honor."
He added, "I am also proud of the number I achieved, especially since I was absent from the Lebanese league for six seasons. I hope that my future goals will help my team achieve victories and trophies." When asked if he believed he could break Allouch's record, he replied: "I think I have the chance to achieve this, as I do not plan to leave the field anytime soon."
