The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has selected Lebanese international runner Aziza Sbeiti as part of its list of 100 "Most Influential and Inspiring Women in the World" for 2023. Sbeiti was chosen for being the fastest runner in Lebanon's history, holding the national record for the 60-meter and 100-meter sprints. She has previously won gold medals at the West Asian Championship and the Arab Championship, both held this year.
The list includes many notable figures from various sectors such as business, art, and sports, including Spanish football's Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmatí and British athlete Bianca Williams. Sbeiti, born on November 17, 1991, recently celebrated her 32nd birthday. She began her international career in 2010 when she participated in the World Junior Championship held in Canada, followed by numerous participations in local, Arab, regional, continental, and international competitions, earning dozens of medals that allowed her to raise the Lebanese flag and have the national anthem played multiple times.
Sbeiti trains regularly under the supervision of national coach Dr. George Assef and is a member of the Lebanese club "Let’s Run."
