The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: On April 18, 2024, in the area of the airport tunnels, two unknown individuals on a motorcycle chased a citizen who was riding his own motorcycle and heading towards Beirut, aiming to rob him. One of the suspects brandished a firearm at him, prompting the citizen to take a route against the flow of traffic and successfully escape from them. Scenes of this incident were circulated on social media.

Immediately, orders were given to identify and apprehend the suspects as quickly as possible. As a result of extensive investigations, elements of the Office for Combating Terrorism and Major Crimes in Beirut and Mount Lebanon within the Judicial Police Unit managed to identify them, namely: A. Y. (born in 1988, Lebanese) the motorcycle driver, and M. S. (born in 1991, Lebanese).

Through diligent follow-up, confirmed information was obtained about the first suspect being in a hospital for treatment after suffering an accident while riding his motorcycle on the same date as the incident while returning from committing the robbery. Subsequently, a force from the office went to the hospital and arrested him.

Upon questioning, he confessed to the allegations against him and to having committed numerous robbery and theft operations in collaboration with M. S. and others. Investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the relevant judiciary, and efforts are continuing to apprehend his accomplices.
