Iranian Judiciary Confirms Detention of Swedish EU Employee

The Iranian judiciary confirmed today, Tuesday, the detention of a Swedish citizen working for the European Union, named Johan Floderos. The spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, Masoud Staeichi, stated: "The Swedish citizen was legally detained following a preliminary investigation, and the results of the complete investigation into his case will be announced in the coming days." Last week, Sweden and the European Commission announced that a Swedish citizen had been detained in Iran, marking the latest known case of the detention of a foreign national in Iran amid escalating political tensions between Tehran and the West. Sweden indicated that Iranian authorities detained Floderos in April 2022, and his family has mentioned that the reason is allegations of espionage.
