A sergeant from the City University of New York's public safety department was recorded telling pro-Palestine protesters, "I support genocide," in a widely circulated video on social media. This verbal altercation occurred yesterday at the College of Staten Island. In the video, the sergeant, identified as Donald Gerard, responded to a protester who accused him of supporting genocide, saying, "Yes, I do." When the protester reiterated the accusation, Gerard replied, "I support genocide. I support killing all you guys." After the protester mentioned that his statement was being recorded, Gerard proceeded to insult him.
A spokesperson for the College of Staten Island told the Daily News, “We condemn the offensive language used by a City University of New York officer during a wonderful graduation ceremony honoring our 2,000 graduates. His words do not reflect the values of the College of Staten Island or the fifty officers on our public safety staff,” emphasizing that Gerard has been suspended pending an investigation of the incident.
