The Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri welcomed Minister and former head of the Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt at the second presidential palace in Ain al-Tineh, where they discussed general conditions and political and field developments.
After the meeting, Jumblatt said: "Above the difficulties is the hardship of the current phase, and above the noise is the noise of war. I came to visit His Excellency Nabih Berri to offer my condolences to the martyrs of the Amal Movement, the martyrs of the resistance, the people, and the martyrs of other organizations, and to show solidarity with the people of the south."
He added: "We spoke a little about the current conditions, and we always hope to find a way to break through the wall of hatred and reach an acceptable settlement to implement Resolution 1701 and return to the 1949 armistice agreement, which, if read in detail, imposes on the Lebanese and Israeli sides a specific area of the border that has limits on armament, if you will, and this could be a starting point."
In response to a question about the connection between the presidential file and the Gaza war and the south, Jumblatt answered: "I did not hear this matter, and the presidential file is a Lebanese file, and those who refuse dialogue are mistaken, not us."
Jumblatt confirmed that he did not discuss the presidential file today.
In the first comment from diplomatic sources on Jumblatt's remarks: "The timing of his words indicates that Lebanon has entered a dangerous phase."
