Russian Attack in Kharkiv Kills 6 and Injures 7

Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv region in Ukraine, reported early Saturday on Telegram that Russia carried out a new attack on Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city, resulting in the death of 6 civilians and the injury of 7. The Ukrainian National Police also posted on Telegram that the attack was executed using drones. Images showed fires blazing in the streets of the city and near buildings. Public broadcaster Suspilne reported that a high-rise residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district was damaged and that one store caught fire. Other news reports indicated that the attack occurred shortly after midnight.

Syniehubov previously announced an airstrike on a residential building in Kharkiv and a missile attack on a village north of the city, with no injuries reported in either incident. Warnings of air raids remained in effect in Kharkiv and much of the country, including the capital Kyiv, for several hours following the Russian attack.

Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine, has been a frequent target for Russian forces, which have intensified their attacks on the city in recent weeks. A drone attack on the city on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of four people and significant damage to several residential buildings. Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, told Politico that he believes Kharkiv is the most likely target for any new Russian attacks in May or June.
