Mikati Discusses Results of Cairo Meeting and Compensation for Victims of Ain al-Hilweh Clashes

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib at the Grand Serail, where they discussed the general situation and matters related to his ministry. Bou Habib informed the Prime Minister about the outcomes of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee meeting regarding Syria, which took place in Cairo.

Mikati also met with MP Osama Saad, who stated after the meeting: "The discussion focused on the issue of compensation for citizens whose homes were significantly damaged as a result of the recent events in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, especially since these individuals are living in very difficult social and economic conditions. The damages have greatly increased their suffering, and we discussed with Prime Minister Mikati the ways to provide compensation for them. Additionally, we spoke with the Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Committee, Major General Mohammed Kheir, on the need for the committee to assess the damages and explore ways to provide compensation. This is a fundamental and important matter that takes precedence over any other issue."

He added: "We are continuing our efforts to uphold the ceasefire in the camp and follow up on the work of the investigation committee tasked with determining the responsibilities for the events that took place and the assassination of General Al-Aramoshi, which led to these serious developments in the camp, and how to hand over the wanted individuals to the Lebanese authorities as soon as possible. Lebanon is experiencing difficult financial and economic conditions that have social repercussions, and there are significant risks facing the country. Therefore, these events only heighten the level of danger, so our main concern is the security of the city of Sidon, the national security of Lebanon, and the safety of the Palestinian people in their camps, to avoid adding new crises to the existing ones, especially as we are in challenging times and it seems that what lies ahead will be even tougher; hence, we must alleviate these crises as much as possible."
