Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati met with the commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Aruldo Lazaro, accompanied by a delegation from the command, in the presence of Miqati's diplomatic advisor, Ambassador Boutros Asaker. During the meeting, they discussed the situation along the Blue Line and addressed the cooperation between the army and international forces, as well as the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. The Prime Minister emphasized that this cooperation serves as a fundamental guarantee for stability along the borders.
The Prime Minister also received the United States Ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, to discuss current developments.
Miqati also discussed the issue of Syrian refugees with the Acting Director General of General Security, Brigadier Elias Bechara, focusing on the communications being handled by General Security in this regard.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister met with Environment Minister Nasser Yassin at the Grand Serail. After the meeting, Yassin mentioned that they discussed environmental issues as they approach World Environment Day on June 5. He presented three key issues: first, the topic of solid waste, where he provided an overview of the progress made in planning for better solid waste management and the ongoing cooperation with the World Bank. He highlighted what is required from the Lebanese government and municipalities, announcing that several projects with the World Bank would soon be declared in various regions of Lebanon to aid the decentralization of this sector or improve existing facilities.
The second issue discussed was sanitation, with plans to soon announce cooperation with the European Union and UNICEF to operate several wastewater treatment plants in Lebanon. The third issue pertains to air quality, noting that air pollution has significantly increased recently due to the use of generators, which poses health risks to the population. Therefore, Yassin stated that he would issue a decision regarding the technical and engineering implementation of filters for all generators, especially large ones above "60 kva."
Lastly, the Prime Minister met with the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi, to discuss matters related to his ministry.
