The Arab Basketball Federation has decided to hold the 25th Arab Men's Basketball Championship in Cairo from December 26 to January 3, instead of November, to avoid clashing with the West Asian qualifiers involving several Gulf and Arab clubs. So far, the federation’s general secretariat has received confirmations from seven national teams, namely Egypt, the UAE, Kuwait, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, and Mauritania. Additionally, three more teams, Tunisia, Jordan, and Iraq, have verbally confirmed their participation and will finalize their attendance later. The door will remain open for other teams wishing to participate.
Prior to the championship, the UAE national team will have an external training camp in the Egyptian capital, during which it will play several matches in preparation for this significant sports event. Lt. Gen. Ismail Qargaoui, president of the Arab and UAE federations, welcomed the participation of as many Arab teams as possible to benefit from the championship for upcoming continental and international contests, emphasizing the Arab federation's commitment to executing all its programs following the considerable successes of other competitions held earlier this year, including the championships for youth teams in Jordan, women's teams in Cairo, women's clubs in Morocco, and men's clubs in Doha.
Qargaoui also extended an invitation to Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, president of the Sharjah Sports Council, to attend the championship in appreciation of his prominent role in supporting the sport both locally and regionally.
