Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian disclosed the details of communications between Tehran and Washington before and after the Iranian attack on Israel, according to "IRNA." He stated, "We informed the U.S. from the moment the decision was made in the Islamic Republic of Iran that a necessary response must be given to the Israeli entity within the framework of international law and legitimate defense, and to issue the necessary warning and punishment."
He added, "We made it clear to the Americans that the decision in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in the Supreme National Security Council chaired by the president, to respond to the Israeli entity is definitive. Messages were exchanged before the operation as well, and after the operation was carried out, around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday (11:00 p.m. Saturday GMT), we sent another message to the United States through diplomatic channels, striving to clearly convey to the U.S. in these messages that we do not seek to escalate tensions in the region, and what could increase tensions is the behavior of the Zionist entity."
He continued, "Before the operation (promise fulfilled), we told the U.S. side clearly that we would not target American bases and interests in the region unless, when responding to the Israeli entity, it wanted to take action in support of it. Messages were exchanged, especially through the Swiss channel as a custodian of U.S. interests and through official diplomatic channels, with the goal of creating a proper understanding of the Iranian action and to prevent an escalation of tensions and crisis in the region."
The Iranian news agency "IRNA" reported that "Abdullahian traveled to New York to attend a United Nations Security Council meeting set for Thursday to discuss developments in the Middle East and focus on the Palestinian issue." Abdullahian confirmed that "this meeting will be held at the level of foreign ministers to consider the developments in the region, and the fact that the situation in Gaza has indeed reached a boiling point."
