Imran Khan Appears Before the Supreme Court via Video Link

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, appeared today, Thursday, before the Supreme Court via a video link from prison in connection with a case he filed against amendments to the country’s anti-corruption laws. His appearance was expected to be streamed live on the court's website and YouTube, marking his first public appearance since his arrest in August of last year. However, the footage was not displayed on the website when the court session began, and the reason for this remains unclear.

Thousands of Khan's supporters awaited the video footage on his party's YouTube channel, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, where the court's recordings were expected to be broadcast. There are multiple cases filed against Khan, who is 71 years old, but his court appearance is specifically related to the case he filed against the amendments made to the anti-corruption laws in the country.

This week, the Supreme Court ordered the government to ensure Khan's appearance via video link, allowing him to represent himself instead of hiring a lawyer. Authorities released Khan, who was ousted from power in 2022, on bail in a land-related corruption case on Wednesday, but he will remain in prison following his conviction in four other cases, with the execution of the sentence suspended in two of them.
